The top of Europe – Jungfraujoch

Switzerland is blessed with some of the world’s most picturesque mountains and each year millions of people visit the country to witness the stunning scenery of the Swiss Alps. If you only visit one part of Switzerland, make it the Jungfrau Region.

One of Switzerland’s most iconic highlights – Jungfraujoch is located at an altitude of about 3450 meters and offers breathtaking views of alpine peaks, large glaciers and gushing waterfalls and there are plenty of unforgettable activities to enjoy in all seasons.

The only way to reach Jungfraujoch, is to take a cogwheel train to Jungfraujoch Railway Station – the highest railway station in Europe, which is located between the mountains of Jungfrau and Mönch.

To capture the best views of Jungfraujoch, you should visit the observatory in the futuristic looking weather station – The Sphinx. A 117 meter lift will take you to the top of the observatory, from where you can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding green valleys, Aletsch Glacier and snowy Alps.

Other must-visit highlights of Jungfraujoch is an Ice Palace, where you will come across various ice sculptures depicting people, animals and even automobiles. You can reach the Ice Palace from the Sphinx observatory through a 250 meter long ice corridor called ‘The Alpine Sensation’. Soothing music plays throughout the walkway, which helps people forget about its frosty temperature.

There is also a Snow Fun Park, where you can go sledding, skiing or snowboarding in the summer. Keep in mind that you have to pay extra to indulge in the snow park activities as they are not a part of the railway ticket you already bought.
