El Salvador has been gaining popularity worldwide in the last 10 years thanks to the quality of the waves on its coasts and a lot of people visit El Salvador for surfing. El Salvador surfing zones are known to hold some of the biggest swells in the Pacific Ocean. Most of the waves can reach more than 100-200 yards without closing out, which makes surfing a truly enthralling experience.
Playa El Zonte in La Costa del Balsamo, an hour’s drive from capital San Salvador, is the best place in the country to learn surfing. Puro Surf, based in Playa El Zonte, offers surf lessons for people who have never surfed and beginners, as well as for surfers from intermediate level to expert and professional surfers.
Playa El Zonte is the perfect destination to spend a few days on the beach, it has enough beach to walk, the water is warm and calm and the weather is sunny, it’s truly a paradise. Also for surfers it’s like an amusement park since it has four different world class waves (beachbreak, left point break, right point break and the sand pit). In addition, the beach is still not very crowded like El Sunzal or El Tunco. In El Zonte you can also find very good options of restaurants and bars to enjoy lunch or have a few beers watching the sunset.
Here in El Zonte you will find waves for all levels, from waves for beginners to large waves where you can surf a barrel or perform more demanding maneuvers. So there are waves for everyone, and it is very easy to enjoy surfing here!
El Zonte is also close to many popular destinations in El Salvador and apart from surfing, people can participate in a lot of activities like going for a swim in Lake Coatepeque, hiking the Santa Ana volcano, enjoying a coffee tasting in Apaneca or learning more about the Mayan culture on a visit to the ruins of San Andres.
