Aruba

What would be your definition of One Happy Island?

If your answer contains anything related to a long stretch of pearl-white sands, abundant water sport activities, rugged landscape to explore and plenty of all-inclusive resorts and top-class hotels, then you will agree that Aruba has earned all the rights to be called by its nickname “one happy island”. Though Aruba is a country, it is officially a part of the Netherlands. With countless  ** to do, it is quite obvious why this small island country is one of the most visited destinations in the Carribean.

First things first, it has some of the most amazing beaches in the Caribbean. Eagle Beach is often included in the list of the top 10 beaches in the world. The beach-side resorts are also some of the best in the world. You can spend some lazy time on the beaches soaking up the Sun and doing absolutely nothing or delve into a world of exciting water-sports like wind and kite surfing. You can also go scuba diving and snorkelling in the stunning coral reefs and get up close with the marine life. Fishing is also a  * activity if you’re into it. If you’re not in the mood for any water activities, you can head over to the rugged Arikok National Park where you can go on a hike for some of the most sweeping views of the island.

Pack your bags and discover one of the Caribbean’s most interesting islands, TODAY!

  1. North Americans fleeing winter make Aruba the most touristed island in the southern Caribbean
  2. miles of glorious white-sand beach, plenty of all-inclusive resorts,
  3. It’s all about sun, fun and spending money.
  4. At the island’s extreme ends are rugged, windswept vistas and uncrowded beaches – perfect for hiking and horseback riding.
  5. Crystal-clear waters are bursting with sea life and shipwrecks (and an airplane wreck or two), providing incredible opportunities for snorkeling and diving.
  6. nonstop breezes create near-perfect conditions for windsurfing and kiteboarding.
  7. Known as One happy island
  8. a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands
  9. This flat, river-less island is renowned for its white sand beaches
  10. The southwest coast has the white sand beaches, turquoise seas, and warm waters
  11. The northeast coast, exposed to the Atlantic, has a few white sand beaches, cacti, rough seas with treacherous currents, and a rocky coastline.
  12. Languages spoken are Dutch (official), Papiamento (also official), Spanish, and English (widely spoken).
  13. The most famous dish in Aruba is Keshi Yena. It is a spicy mixture of chicken and peppers, capers, olives and tomatoes traditionally baked in a Gouda cheese “shell”
  14. Oranjestad – capital –
    • Aruba’s capital city is also its largest municipality, and wandering its streets is usually a low-key, even languid affair offering sporadic encounters with local life.
    • the surrounding blocks offer colorful Dutch colonial buildings sprinkled amid shiny newer shopping malls.
    • Surfside Beach –
      • a pretty pleasant place to spend an afternoon if you’re hankering after some sun, surf and sand.
      • It’s the best, most swimmable beach in Oranjestad proper, with plenty of shade and a handful of excellent bars
    • Aruba Archaeological Museum –
      • The capital’s newest museum is housed in the beautifully restored colonial-era Ecury Complex, home to a successful merchant family throughout the 20th century.
      • The engaging exhibits focus on Arawak life in the precolonial period, with a reproduction of a traditional home and multimedia presentations
    • Fort Zoutman –
      • this 18th-century fort was built to defend the port against pirates
      • The complex now houses the small Aruba Historical Museum and the weekly Bonbini Festival.
  15. Arikok National Wildlife Park –
    • Arid and rugged, Arikok National Wildlife Park is a vast, desolate stretch of desert wilderness that covers much of the east coast (nearly 20% the island’s total area).
    • It’s a fascinating contrast to the heavily developed and lushly landscaped west coast
    • 45 miles of hiking trails
    • wild donkeys and goats, Aruban whiptail lizards, and a few dozen species of bird.
    • Natural Pool –
      • Powerful wave action has worn this depression into the coastal limestone ridge
      • The surrounding rocks break the surf, so – with waves crashing all around – you can take a peaceful, cooling dip.
    • Fontein Cave –
      • Though this limestone cave is extensive, only the entrance hall is open to visitors.
      • Aside from stalactites, stalagmites and other impressive rock formations, the cave contains well-preserved drawings by Caquetío people (a branch of the Arawak) that date back about 1000 years.
  16. Antilla Wreck –
    • a popular destination for snorkelers and divers
    • The 400ft wreck is lying on its side in about 60ft of water.
    • What’s unique about the Antilla is that the masts, bow and forward deck are shallow enough that they’re mostly visible to snorkelers.
  17. Eagle Beach –
    • Fronting a line of low-rise resorts just northwest of Oranjestad, Eagle is a long stretch of white sand that regularly makes lists of the best beaches in the world
    • Eagle Beach is a leatherback-turtle nesting area, so parts of it may be closed from March to July.
  18. Andicuri Beach –
    • Limestone cliffs, crystal-clear waters and crashing waves make this beach experience different from all others on the island.
    • This east-coast beauty is popular with surfers and boogie-boarders.
  19. Butterfly Farm –
    • Tucked between the low-rise and high-rise resort areas, this place will make your heart go aflutter, as the gorgeous gardens are teeming with butterflies and moths of all sizes and colors
  20. Donkey Sanctuary –
    • The donkeys at the sanctuary are well taken care of: they are named, treated, fed, protected and loved. You won’t be able to resist them!
  21. San Nicolas –
    • A small town near the island’s southern tip, San Nicolas preserves Aruba’s former rough-and-ready character
    •  an authentically Aruban town where locals abound, the beaches are blissful and a new art movement is making a colorful splash.
    • More than 40 murals depicting Aruba’s people, traditions, wildlife and more can be seen on the town’s walls,
