Tajikistan is a landlocked country in Central Asia with over 90% of its terrain mountainous. Hiking and trekking through the scenic lakes and unspoiled natural landscapes are the best ways to explore this stunning country.
Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan is surrounded by a beautiful setting of parks, mountains and lakes. Some of Dushanbe’s highlights are the National Museum of Tajikistan, Rudaki Park, Museum of National Antiquities, Kokhi Navruz, Haji Yaqub Mosque and Soviet-era relics. Near the city lies the Hisor Fortress, which contains the ruins of a massive fortress that saw multiple renovations over the centuries. The remote and mountainous landscape of the Pamir region is known for its deep river canyons, traditional lifestyles, and the Pamir highway – the world’s second-highest international highway.
Khorog, a high altitude city in the Pamir Mountains, is a popular stop for anyone travelling on the Pamir highway. You can explore the city’s botanical garden, museum, bazaars and teahouses.
The Wakhan Valley in Tajikistan’s south, along the international border with Afghanistan, is home to picturesque little villages. This is where you will find the ancient Langar Petroglyphs and the ruins of the 12th-century Yamchun fort.
